Couscous we usually get at the store is instant couscous. It has been steamed cooked and then dried.
The ration proportions for cooking couscous is 1:1. Less water equals a drier couscous, which is great for salads. 1 cup of dried couscous makes 4 cups cooked.
1 Cup couscous (whole wheat or regular)
1-2 Tablespoons butter or olive oil (both are optional)
1 Cup water or Broth
Sauce pan with lid
1. Pour the water, butter or olive oil in the sauce pan and bring to a boil.
2. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the couscous evenly.
3. Add salt to taste.
4. Cover with lid
5. Wait 7-10 minutes
The couscous should have absorbed all the water or broth.
Gently fluff with a fork and it's ready.
