How To Cook Couscous

Couscous is a grain like pasta. It's made from semolina  wheat. The dish is very popular in North Africa. There are countless couscous recipes. 

Couscous we usually get at the store is instant couscous. It has been steamed cooked and then dried.

The ration proportions for cooking couscous is 1:1. Less water equals a drier couscous, which is great for salads. 1 cup of dried couscous makes 4 cups cooked.


1 Cup couscous (whole wheat or regular)
1-2 Tablespoons butter or olive oil (both are optional)
1 Cup water or Broth
Sauce pan with lid


1. Pour the water, butter or olive oil in the sauce pan and bring to a boil.
2. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the couscous evenly.
3. Add salt to taste.
4. Cover with lid
5. Wait 7-10 minutes
The couscous should have absorbed all the water or broth.
Gently fluff with a fork and it's ready.
